How much will only the printing of my book cost?
This varies greatly depending on trim size, binding, length, weight of paper, whether it has color images inside. Solely for the sake of demonstrating scale: It can cost as little as 30% of your retail sale price, or up to 85% in some cases. We will make sure it is both attractive and profitable; that’s part of each of our packages!
How much will I make selling my book?
Altamont Media Publishing is a non-traditional publishing company which, in part, means that you pay to get your book published. How much you are able to make depends on how many books you can sell. Altamont Media Publishing does not provide extensive marketing campaigns. Writers who work with us keep 75% of their royalties.
Who sets the selling price for my book?
You do! We will make sure it is priced appropriately to its category.
Does Altamont Media Publishing provide an ISBN for my book?
Altamont Media Publishing, LLC provides an ISBN for two of our three packages. These ISBNs cannot be re-used for other books or to distribute the book through other means because they are registered to our publishing company.
Do I need an ISBN to sell on Amazon.com?
No. Amazon automatically provides their proprietary ASIN to each book sold on their platform. (However, in order to sell your work in any retail situation, you must have an ISBN with barcode.)
How do I get paid when Altamont Media Publishing sells my book?
We make payments to you by check, or digital if requested.
All payments are calculated in U.S. dollars.
How does Altamont Media Publishing make money?
Altamont Media Publishing makes money a few ways:
- Building out projects for our clients
- A la carte services
- Book sales to our writers
- Books sales via retail / online
- Merch sales via online
How much will my own book cost me (as the author)?
This depends on the following factors:
- Your chosen package: bronze-tier costs you the most per book, while gold-tier will cost the least per book.
- The current per-book price for printing
- The amount of books being ordered at once: 500 books will cost much less than 300 to print.
Will my book be in bookstores?
At this time we are focused on selling online only through our Amazon Seller account. Selling through other channels is cost prohibitive due to the relatively low market shares outside of Amazon and our website.
However, if you are aware of a locally owned bookstore which may be interested in our books, please refer us to them to establish a relationship! We will be happy to do this legwork freely for our clients.
Does Altamont Media Publishing collect sales tax on sales of my book?
Yes, Altamont Media Publishing automatically collects sales tax when required for sales made on our website and remits it to the proper taxing authority.
Why does Altamont Media Publishing require me to provide a W9 or W8 tax form?
We must report those royalty payments to you as income on a 1099 form at the end of the year for you to use in filing your taxes, and at the same time report the income to the IRS. We need the W9 filled out in order to track payments to you and report them on the 1099. We must have the W9 from you before we make any payments.
